Phillip W Long

Phillip W Long, 88, Paoli, IN passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, at his home. He was born July 28, 1934, in Paoli, IN to Thomas Wayne and Lois Edna Busick Long.

He married Janice K Murphy on March 4, 1960, and she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Donnie Kee III, a brother Donald Long, sisters Bonnie Qualkenbush Bruner, Judith Atkinson, and Glenda Marshall.

Phillip worked at the Ellis Funeral Home while in high school and continued intermittently throughout his lifetime. He began driving the ambulance for the Ellis family and later became an EMT for the Orange County Hospital. Phillip was elected Orange County Coroner, loyally serving two terms. In addition to this he continued to serve Orange County as interim Sheriff for a short period. He retired from the town of Paoli after 20 years of service as an employee and he was also a member of the Paoli Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. Phillip was a proud US Army veteran and he was a loving family man that enjoyed collecting antique cars and toys. Phillip was a Christian and a member of Prospect church of Christ.

Phillip enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a kind and giving person.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 63 years, Janice K Long, Paoli, IN, a son Steven Layne (Betsy) Long, Columbus, IN, daughter Cynthia Lynn (Donnie) Kee, Paoli, IN. Also surviving Phillip are 4 grandchildren, Hannah & Katie Long, Shawn K (Thomas) Willett, and Joseph (Lindsey) Kee. 7 Great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 19, 2023, at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 West Campbell Street, Paoli, IN.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Visitation will continue from 9:00 AM until service time Friday. Interment to follow at the Paoli Community Cemetery, Paoli, IN.
