Melvin “Popeye” McDonald, 93, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Hearthstone Health Campus, Bloomington. He was born on September 8, 1928, in Paoli, Indiana to Heber and Grace Hooten McDonald. Melvin married Bonetta Nickell on September 30, 1950, and she survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Shannon, sister Juanita Cornwell, and stepmother Fern Carter McDonald.
Melvin was a member of the Paoli Christian Church. He was a retired educator with the Paoli and Orleans School Systems, after 31 years. Melvin was also a farmer and painter.
Melvin “Popeye” McDonald was a WWII US Airforce Veteran.

Josh, Wendy, and Dusty McDonald, April Armstrong, Courtney Hudson, Cassandra Stevning, Jordan Frey, Jonathan Frey, and Taylor, David, and Jake Felton
13- Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive Melvin “Popeye” McDonald.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, located at 226 W Campbell Street Paoli, IN 47454. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service. Interment will follow in the Paoli Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Melvin’s name to Southern Care Hospice in Bloomington, 1923 Liberty Drive Bloomington Indiana 47403.
