Obituary

Larry G. Stroud, 75, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 10, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on September 12, 1947, in Paoli, Indiana, the son of Robert O. Stroud and Anna Strange Quinlin.

Larry graduated from Paoli Jr. Sr High School, Class of 1968. Following graduation, he proudly served with the U.S. Army until honorable discharge in January 1971. Prior to deploying for Vietnam, he married his high school sweetheart, Mona Goodman Stroud. Side by side, they worked together balancing work, endless energy in support of family, their grandchildren, and their continued devotion to their faith to celebrate 54 years of marriage in April.

Larry returned to his hometown and began his career as a truck driver for Cornwell & Company until it burnt in 1974. He continued this career path driving for Brittany Furniture, Calcar Quarry (self-employed), retiring in 2011 from Meyer Logistics, Jasper, IN.

Larry had a love for sports that started as a PHS athlete, competing in football, basketball, and track. This passion led to him officiating basketball for many years and he especially enjoyed officiating with his late buddy, Joe Barrett. Unparalleled he most loved watching his children and grandchildren compete and cheer throughout their school careers.

Spending time with family, friends, and helping others was important to Larry. You could always find him fixing things at Paoli Wesleyan church, making bird feeders from small old tires, and making priceless memories with his best friends Buck and Debbie Babcock, on the many adventurous vacations they shared together over the years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother, John Thomas Stroud and two brothers-in-law, George Perkins, and Danny Ash.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife, Mona are his two children, Jennifer (Stroud) Key and her husband Keith, of Evansville, Derek Stroud, of West Baden; two grandchildren, Hillary (Key) Buza and her husband John, Hayden Key and one great-grandson, Camden Buza, all of Evansville; three sisters, Ella Mae Perkins, of Anderson, Roberta Ash, of Kokomo, Janice Smock, of Paoli.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Paoli Wesleyan Church, 601 SW 1st Street, Paoli, IN.  Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM and on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 1:00 PM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Paoli Wesleyan Church, Paralyzed Veterans or St Jude’s hospital.

Arrangements under the care of Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 West Campbell St, Paoli, IN 47454.
