KOREY STEVEN RUTHERFORD

December 3, 1984 - December 25, 2022
 

Korey Steven Rutherford packed more into his 38 short years than most people do in a full lifetime. Generous to a fault with those he loved, Korey will be missed by his family and those dear friends he held close. 
Even as a child, Korey showed signs that he was destined for a business career, asking for office supplies and an adding machine, rather than toys.  This early drive for success, led Korey to follow in his father's, Scott Rutherford, footsteps, receiving  Bachelor degrees in Accounting and Finance, with a minor in Spanish, and an MBA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business, before joining the Fortune 100 enterprise that had been a part of his family's life throughout his childhood. Soon after joining Caterpillar, Korey received Certification in Public Accounting, Certification in Managerial Accounting, and Certification in Audit and Forensic Accounting.  His intellect, perseverance, and drive led to a fast-tracked career through a series of continuously increased-responsibility positions, most recently with leading global audit functions for the firm.

Korey, loved for his dry wit, was always curious and interested in the nicer things in life, Korey enjoyed fine-dining and cocktails with his friends, traveling around the world, and weekends with his family. Beyond friends and his dear family, Korey treasured being uncle to his niece, Shelby Mae, who from birth, was closest to his heart.
 
In addition to his father, Korey leaves his bonus mom, Lynn Cadle Rutherford with whom he bonded while a young man.  He is also survived by his mother, Lisa Kyle-Wolf [Vicki], sister, Krystyn Rutherford Gunther [Jake], nieces Shelby Mae and Reagan Gunther, grandparents, Shelby and Judy Rutherford and grandmother Geneva Kyle, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Korey was preceded in death by grandparents, Betty Cadle and Charles Kyle.
A private service will be held with interment at the Stampers Creek Cemetery in Paoli, Indiana.
