Barbara Gilliatt Obituary

On Friday, January 12th, 2018, Barbara’s struggle with dementia ended.  
Barbara Ann Gilliatt 78 of Paoli, Indiana was born to Bennie & Dorothy Grunden on July 17th, 1939.  She graduated from Paoli High School in 1957 then married Victor Gilliatt on February 20, 1959.
Barbara led a full life that included several successful careers.  She was employed by Electricom, Inc for many years before opening her own utility line construction company, Mid America Construction in 1981.
In addition to her individual accomplishments, in 1977  “Barb & Vic” became the owners of Green Acres Country Club and worked together for almost 20 years at the golf course and restaurant before deciding to give retirement a chance.  Barbara soon decided she wasn’t ready to retire and returned to school to obtain her license to sell insurance then joined Waynick Insurance, which she very much enjoyed.  Adding to her new career with Waynick’s, Barbara stepped into her much loved husband’s role on the Orange County Council in 2003, when he passed away unexpectedly.  Barbara continued to serve the area she loved until she retired in December 2014.
Survivors include:  Daughter Belynda (Steve) Baker, Granddaughter Breanna Baker, Grandson Landon (Tatum)Baker, Granddaughter Peyton Gilliatt, Grandson JobeGilliatt and their Mother Heather Gilliatt-Talbott, Great Granddaughters Lila and Emmy Baker and Sister Debbie (Alan) Waynick.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Victor Gilliatt, her son Bart Andrew Gilliatt, an infant brother Ronnie, her parents and mother and father-in -law Gladys and Henry Gilliatt.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Paoli Friends Meeting Church 301 North Gospel Street, Paoli, Indiana where Barbara was a member, with Mark Tope and Dan Smetzer officiating.  Interment will follow at the Paoli Community Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 16. 2018 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the Dillman-Scott Funeral Home 226 West Campbell Street, Paoli, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Backpacks of Blessings or the Paoli Friends Meeting Church.
