Sylvia Slayton

Sylvia Slayton, 92, formerly of Paoli, passed away May 8, 2023 at Todd Dickey Nursing Home, Leavenworth, IN.  She was born February 26, 1931 in Crawford County, IN to James P  Melton and Nora Mae White.

She married Charles Lockhart, then later married John Richard Slayton.  They both preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, sons Eldo and Elmo, daughter Joyce Vincent and sister Goldie Sherron.

She graduated from nursing school as a LPN and a QMA.  She worked at several nursing homes, including Todd Dickey, Robert E Lee, Medco and Indian Creek.  She was a member of Valeene Christian Church.  Sylvia was also a member of the Moose Lodges in Paoli and Salem.

Sylvia never met a stranger.  She was an avid dog lover and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Also surviving Sylvia are five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 12, 2023 at Dillman Scott Funeral Home, 226 West Campbell Street, Paoli, IN.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2023 and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at  Valeene christian church cemetery, Valeene, IN.
