Butch often spoke of the many times he had gone fishing with his grandpa, Worth Newlin, in his younger days. He would always point out the many ponds in the area where they had fished.
He loved his kids and grandkids. He loved spending time with them.
He enjoyed many vacations in the western states and in the Smokies. He also enjoyed relaxing with good country music and watching westerns on TV.
Butch is always spoken of as being a good and honest person. He served in the Army Reserve for 6 years, where he met many lifelong friends.
He began working on cars at an early age and had a good reputation as a mechanic his whole life, with many friends seeking his advice. He earned a living at Mitchell transport for many years, then went to work for the Town of Paoli as a mechanic until retiring.
He is best known after retirement for restoring a 1957 Chevy, which was driven only when the weather was good…a drop of rain never touched it. He had newspapers on the floorboard. There was no eating in the car and no sticky fingers. Everyone knew the rules but enjoyed an occasional ride in the car.
As he grew older and began experiencing troublesome health issues, he was eventually diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2013. He was glad to not experience the tremors, as many do, but he could no longer do all the work and things that he enjoyed all his life. Eventually, he was unable to get around like he used to. It was hard for him to accept. He fell many times and eventually he needed more help than could be given at home. He was liked and respected at the nursing home, where he received constant care as his Parkinson’s progressed. It was natural for him to be a good, decent person, and to always do the right thing. On June 16,2024, Father’s Day, he died peacefully in his sleep.
