Robert L. (Bob) Gilliatt, 78, passed away on May 4, 2020. He was born in Orange County, Indiana to Mattie Elizabeth Gilliatt.

He graduated from Paoli High school in 1960.

Robert was a very community-oriented person. He loved Paoli.

He served 24 consecutive years on the town board, serving as president during part of his term. He also served on multiple boards and committees representing Paoli and Orange County.

Robert was one of the first EMTs when the EMS was established in Orange County. He gave 35 years to the ambulance service.

Robert was a volunteer sheriff deputy for the Orange County Sheriff s Department for 12 years He was on the Paoli Fire Department for many years.

He was a long-time member of the Jay-Cees, serving as president at one time.

Robert was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge 119. His initiation was conducted by his father-in-law, Dr. Charles X. McCalla III.

An avid lover of basketball from high school, he was a referee for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Kate McCalla-Gilliatt, son Robert Gilliatt Jr (Penny), daughters Michele Gilliatt Block (David), and Sarah Maze Peters (Curt).

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy (Holly) Ashley, Kylee (Brandon) Kellams, Kelsey Gilliatt, Kinley Block, Selena, Dacy, and Ebke Peters. He also has 7 great grandchildren.

Robert is also survived by caretakers Kerrie Copeland and Melissa Pate

He was preceded in death by his mother, and an infant son Jonathan.

Visitation will be Wednesday May 6, 2020 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, located at 226 W Campbell St, Paoli IN 47454. A private funeral service will be held Thursday.

Cremation was chosen.

Paul Crecelius will officiate.
