Michael Gene Roberts passed away April 30, 2026.
He was born April 6, 1950, to William and Emogene Trinkle Roberts at Clark Hospital in Paoli, Indiana. He was the first of two sons with Danny passing in 1969. He also had two older half-sisters, Karen and Beverly, both predeceasing him.
He grew up in Paoli and graduated PHS in 1968. He attended Purdue University, graduating in 1973. He married Joy Justine Cook of Paoli in 1971 and was very happily married for 43 years until her passing. They had a son: Kyle, who passed at childbirth, a daughter: Megan E. Hill (Joseph) and a granddaughter: Eloise J. Hill.
He and Joy traveled throughout the U.S. and also to Quebec, Canada and the Bahamas. Their favorite family locations were Jackson Hole, WY and Houston, TX, visiting parents.
He had an extensive resume, which included: real estate sales, insurance sales and inspections, business ownership, industrial manufacturing, teaching (both middle and high school) at three different Christian Schools, and coaching (boys high school soccer and basketball, and girls high school basketball).
As a boy, he enjoyed his school classmates, neighborhood boys & girls, little league/pony league baseball at Jay C Park, cub scouts and band (trombone). All through high school his activities included concert/marching band, four sports, boy scouts, attending 1964 BSA National Jamboree at Valley Forge, PA and Philmont Scout Ranch, NM. He eventually earned the Eagle Scout rank with 9 other Paoli scouts and Vigil membership Order of the Arrow.
As an adult, he was Scoutmaster and Royal Ranger leader for 15 years. He mentored 22 scouts to earn the Eagle Rank, receiving the District Award of Merit and Woodbadge certificate. He planned several high adventure trips for his two troops that included: North Carolina, Kentucky, Colorado, Wyoming, and Philmont Scout Ranch, New Mexico.
He enjoyed his first job at the Shakeburger Drive-In when he was 13-15, working for George & Dorothy Giles and Harry Denny.
He attended First Baptist Church in Paoli where he answered the effectual call on his heart for redemption in 1961and was soon thereafter baptized. His ministry efforts over the years started with correspondence with a Mexican boy for two years, then Big Brother for two years, Sunday school teaching, deaconed, home group teaching, and prison ministry outreach for several years at two different facilities.
He considered the teamwork of his vision of outreach and Joy’s prayer support established a pattern of life that led them in the pursuit of happiness orchestrated by the spirit of Christ to be successful. Joy’s conversion in her respective church in Paoli in 1962 solidified their marriage for all their difficult experiences in life. Learning the orientation of Psalms 16:11 was a standard part of their walk.
He will be cremated and interred at Stampers Creek cemetery alongside Joy, his parents, and brother. No funeral or memorial services are planned.
