In Loving Memory of Loretta Ann Johnson Icenogle
Loretta Ann Johnson Icenogle, 80, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at Paoli Health & Living Center. Born on September 3, 1945, Loretta was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth, kindness, and vibrant social spirit touched all who knew her.
Loretta was a naturally social soul who loved chatting with friends and family. A favorite family memory was her husband’s lighthearted threat after Sunday morning service to leave her at church if she didn't head to the car when he was ready to go. Her life was filled with simple joys and creative passions, including sewing, crocheting, gardening, singing, and playing the piano. She had a deep love for gospel music and audiobooks, and she took immense delight in retelling the stories she listened to with anyone willing to hear them. During her several years as a resident at Paoli Health & Living, she thoroughly enjoyed playing BINGO and spending time with her dear friends.
Above all, Loretta’s love for her family was paramount. Even after her daughters were grown with homes of their own, her motherly devotion never wavered—she kept them in her heart, thinking of them and worrying about them often.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Byron (Barney) Paul Icenogle; her mother, Mabel Elizabeth Chilton Johnson; her father, Kipp Carlton Johnson; and her brothers, Kipp Curtner Johnson (and wife Virginia) and Charles Vernon Johnson (and wife Kathryn).
Loretta is survived by her three devoted daughters: Mable Alpha Friedman (and husband Jeff, and partner David Scott), Florence Loretta Icenogle, and Hazel Irene Grunden (and husband Gerald); her two cherished grandchildren, Maria Nicole Clouse and Marc Antony Friedman; and her two beloved great-grandchildren, Sylas Osborne and Sapphire Osborne.
Her kind heart, gentle humor, and deep love for her family will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
