Kenneth "Kenny" Daley
Minton
September 2, 1949 – May 17, 2026
Kenneth “Kenny” Daley Minton Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Paoli, on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Kenny was born on September 2, 1949, in Paoli, Indiana, to Noble Herschel and Roxie Lee (Dailey) Minton.
Kenny was born 12th in a line of 13 children. He was 10 years younger than his next older brother, with 4 sisters born in between, so it has been said that he was a "wee bit spoiled" by the older siblings. Although Brenda is the youngest, everyone including her says Kenny was the baby of the family.
As a youngster, he worked alongside his father, lighting up the streets as they did back then. He also worked at Tasty House, where he met Carol McKim, who became his wife and the mother of his children, lovingly nicknamed Shelley, Kenny D., Trixie, and Opie. He was a Meadow Gold milkman for awhile as well, and together with Carol they purchased Shakeburger Drive-In. They later owned Chat-N-Snack for a short time. Kenny ran the Shakeburger for over four decades, making many favorite recipes by hand and employing family, friends, and many teenagers working their very first jobs — and between the two restaurants he probably taught about half of Paoli how to make a burger and survive a busy Friday night rush.
He worked long hours, but days off were filled with fun memories: teaching his kids to ride the mini-bike, fishing at Tucker Lake, swimming at Patoka Lake, and skating in Orleans for family skate nights — where there was just as much laughing as there was actual skating. There were also late nights spent stargazing along with nephew Kim Strother, and memorable motorcycle rides including a trip to Florida with Kenny D. and nephews Greg Strother and Todd Minton — proving he could balance hard work with a little adventure and a lot of fun.
His family had attended Paoli Christian Church, and he was baptized on January 15, 1984.
Survivors include: Daughters - Michelle Grimes (Bryan) of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kimberly Dawn Hobson (Kerry) of Clarksville, Indiana, and sons, Kenny Minton Jr. (Kristina) of Dayton, Ohio, and Rudy Minton of Columbus, Indiana; five sisters - Nancy Tillet (Frank) of Bedford, Donna Atchley (Mike), Karen Meehan (Larry), Marsha Meehan, and Brenda Nicholson, of Paoli, and brother Connie Minton of Orleans, Indiana; Grandchildren- Kyle Grimes (Jaydon) , Hilary Hahn (James), Taylor Lewis (Alissa), Kenny Minton III, Ashlynne Minton, Bella Earhart, Mila Minton, Aaron Hobson (Shannon), Rachel Judd (Thomas) & Jesse Hobson; great grandchildren- Beatrix, Timothy, Cosette, Saoirse, Xander, Adelaide, Aoife, Marley, Maddy, Izzy, Gemma, Amara, Harper, Weston, Autumn & Reina, and many, many nephews, nieces and great-nephews & great-nieces. While the grandbabies didn't live very close by, he happily helped often with his great-great-nephew, Malcolm Block. Special thanks to his siblings, and Todd & Charity Stroud for helping him out when we couldn't be there.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Roxie, sisters, Nina “Tootsie” Strother and her husband, William “Bill”, and Helen Charles and her husband Robert “Bob”; brothers, Johnny Paul and his wife, Kate, William “Billy" and his wife, Carol, Noble Dale, and Philip and his wife, Wilma; brothers-in-law, John Meehan and Terry Nicholson; sister-in-law Wanda Minton; and nephews Franklin Tillett, Brent Minton and, Kim Strother, Mike Minton; niece Hedy King; and several other great-nephews and great-nieces.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
In Dad’s memory, you could swing by Shakeburger and order yourself a Double Decker or a dressed breaded tenderloin with a side of broasted potatoes or homemade onion rings, and reminisce about days gone by.
