Joanne (Bailey) Duncan

Joanne Bailey Duncan, 83 passed away Wednesday August 17, 2016. Joanne Bailey Duncan was born January 2, 1933 in Ft. Worth, Texas.  At age 8, Joanne became the youngest person in Ft. Worth to be employed and have a social security card when she began her job at the Ft. Worth radio station WBAP as “Jeannie” on the “We, Who are Young” program.  Joanne remained employed at the WBAP radio station until she was 13.  Joanne moved from Ft. Worth to Dallas, TX in 1946 and graduated from Woodrow Wilson H.S. in 1950.  Joanne worked as a secretary for Southwestern Publishing Co., Republic National Bank of Dallas, and Regional Secretary for Clairol in Dallas, TX.  She also worked in the Civilian Personnel Office in the Azores Island, where her oldest daughter, Lori Andrews, was born.  In 1977, she moved to Houston, TX to work as a Clairol Sales Representative and retired from Clairol 10 years later at which time she became a Mary K consultant. Joanne met John M. Duncan in February, 1978 in Houston, TX and they married on May 31, 1980 in the Chapel of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.  She and John moved to Indiana in 1991 where they worked together with John’s family to develop the Pines log cabin rentals at Patoka Lake Village, Inc. in French Lick.  John opened the Duncan Law Office in 1991, and Joanne worked beside him as the Office Manager.  Joanne’s husband John and her daughter, Lynne Ellis, began the Partnership of Duncan & Ellis, PC, and Joanne continued as Office Manager until retiring in 2000.  While living in Indiana, Joanne served as Secretary of Patoka Lake Village, Inc., was an active member of, and held the positions of Vice President and Secretary of, the Springs Valley Republican Women’s Club in French Lick.  In 2005, Joanne was an Honoree of the “Tribute to Women” at the Indiana Federation of Republican Women’s Dinner celebrated in Indianapolis, IN.  Joanne was also on the Board of the Indiana Lawyers Auxiliary and served as Historian for the Auxiliary. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Duncan; mother, Tommie (Cain) Bailey of Austin, TX; father, James Thomas Bailey and wife Gladys of Winnsboro, TX; and sister, Gwendolyn (Bailey) Gray of Austin, TX. Survivors include: 2-Daughters: Lori Andrews and Tim, Winona, TX Lynne Ellis and Tim, Shoals, IN 2-Sons: Marc Wood and Juanita, Paoli, IN Neil Wood and Sun, Huachuca City, AZ 2-Step-Sons: Leroy Duncan and Linda, Wood River, IL Jim Duncan and Shon, Carpentersville, IL 3-Step-Daughters: Mary Crouchley and Larry, French Lick, IN Barbara Mathies and Randy, Huntingburg, IN Dona Duncan, Phoenix, AZ Brother-in-Law: Foster Gray and Helen, Austin, TX Newphews: Roger Gray and Jan, Round Rock, TX David Gray and Pixie, Round Rock, TX Kevin Gray and Jill, Springhill, LA Also surviving Joanne is her friend and care-giver Hope Dorsett, 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 West Campbell Street, Paoli, IN  47454 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Paoli Presbyterian Church from 9:00 AM until the time service begins at 11:00 AM.  Pastor Nancy Waters will be officiating.  Interment and grave-side services will be held at Paoli Community Cemetery in Paoli, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Orange County Humane Society, P.O. Box 61 Paoli, IN 47454; the Paoli Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 87, Paoli, IN  47454; Southern Care Hospice Services, Bloomington, IN; or to the charity of your choice.
