Helen (Long) Magill

Helen E. Magill, 100, of Orleans, passed away on October 3, 2024, at Paoli Health and Living Community in Paoli, IN. She was born December 2, 1923 in Paoli, IN to Oscar Long and Jennie Jones Long, both of whom preceded her.

Helen was also preceded by:

Husbands: Robert Lindley, Fred Dillard, and Ted Magill.

Sons: Larry Lindley and John Dillard.

Daughter: Patty Dillard

Brothers: John Long, Wayne “Bud” Long, and Charles Long.

Sisters: Elizabeth Slaten, Alta Slayton, Mary Runyon, Ruth Flick, and Martha A. Long.

Helen worked in different fields throughout her life including making televisions at Trav-Lar Factory in Orleans, IN, Drake’s Manufacturing in Paoli, IN, Hoosier Uplands (formerly known as the LOW Program) in Mitchell, IN, and as a Correctional Cook at Orange County Jail in Paoli, IN.

She was a graduate of Paoli High School Class of 1941.

Helen loved to sew and was a highly skilled seamstress. She made stockings, aprons, hang-towels, her children’s clothes while they were growing up, quilts for family and friends, and her daughter’s wedding dress, just to name a few of the things she made over the years.

She was a huge fan of I.U. Basketball and never missed a game on television if she could help it and was even able to attend 3 games at Assembly Hall at Indiana University Bloomington.

Helen also always attended sporting and extracurricular events for her grandchildren, rarely missing a chance to show up to support them.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 W. Campbell St. Paoli, IN.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, October 6, 2024, and 9:00 AM until the service time on Monday at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 W. Campbell St. Paoli, IN.

Interment at Paoli Community Cemetery to follow Funeral Service on Monday.
