Gary Trent Barksdale D.D.S., 75, of Columbus, IN. formerly of Paoli, IN died Wednesday, September 16 ,2015 in Columbus, IN. Gary was a well-liked and respected dentist in Columbus, where he practiced for 39 years. He was a born again Christian, and he had a generous spirit and a gregarious personality that family, friends and patients enjoyed.
He was born on November 21, 1939 in Paoli, IN to Wilbur Carson and Lena Cassidy Barksdale. He was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother David Lee Barksdale. He married Diana Brown on January 24, 1960 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Paoli, IN. They were childhood sweethearts and graduated together in 1957 from Paoli High School.
Gary graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington.IN and IU’s School of Dentistry in Indianapolis IN. He was an IU fan and a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Gary was an officer in the Navy and stationed at Camp Lejeune Marine Base in Jacksonville, NC from 1964 to 1966.
Gary took over the practice of Dr. Jones in 1966 in Columbus IN and practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2005. He liked to fish, golf and play bridge. Heearned the rank of Silver Life Master in bridge through the American Contract Bridge League. He was a Bible Study Fellowship leader, and he took a dental missionary trip to Haiti in the 1990s

Funeral Service will be Saturday September 26, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at the Dillman-Scott Funeral Home, 226 West Campbell Street Paoli, IN. Burial will follow at Paoli Community Cemetery, Paoli, IN. Visitation will be held Saturday September 26, 2015 for the family from 1:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. and for friends from 1:30 P.M. to 2:45 P.M. at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home.
