Emma Janette “Jan” Edmiston
Emma Janette “Jan” Edmiston of Paoli, IN, Passed away on May 21, 2026. Jan was born on June 4,1939 to Norman and LaRue Wells, of Paoli, IN. Jan attended Paoli Elementary School and graduated from Paoli High School in 1957 as co-valedictorian of her class.
After graduation, she was employed by Haight, Davis, and Haight Consulting Actuaries in Indianapolis, IN, as secretary to Peter C. Spoolstra for 10 years. In 1967, Mr. Spoolstra started Peter C. Spoolstra and Associates Consulting Actuaries and Jan served as his secretary at the new company for 3 years.
Jan married Donald R. Crecelius in August 1957 at the EUB Church in Paoli, IN. To the union, two little girls were adopted, Lisa in 1968 and Debra in 1970. The family resided in Tampa, Florida from March 1970 to 1973, moving to the Tri-State area of Cincinnati, OH.
While living in Cincinnati, OH, Jan was employed by two part-time office service companies in various secretarial positions, transitioning to court reporter transcriptionist.
In 1981, the family returned to Indiana, residing in New Albany. Jan worked at Baptist Hospital East’s Pathology Department as a secretary, during which time she acquired a wealth of medical terminology.
In 1987, Don passed away from malignant glioblastoma. In 1989, Jan married George W. Edmiston in Salem, IN. This marriage ended with his death in January 2018.
Jan was a devout Christian having attended several churches over the years, where she served as a member of the church boards, Sunday School teacher, Missionary President, and Ladies Group Director. Most recently, Jan attended the Paoli Wesleyan Church.
Surviving to cherish her memory, are her daughters, Lisa (Michael) Taylor of Shoals, IN and Debra (David) Hunt-Kerr of Memphis, IN. Six grandchildren: Laura (Mark) King of English, IN; Carrie (Chris) Tedrow of Holland, IN; Christi (Halee) Crecelius of Floyds Knobs, IN; Aaron (Whitney) Meriwether of Plainfield, IN; Andrew (Jessica) Meriwether of Ellettsville, IN; Brooklyn Hunt of Sellersburg, IN; 7 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, May 29, 2026, at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home. (226 W. Campbell St. Paoli, IN 47454)
Visitation will start at 9:00 AM and run until the time of Funeral Service on Saturday.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Dillman-Scott Funeral Home.
Interment to follow at Mount Gilead Cemetery.
